Prospects for cooperation with Portugal in the fields of digitalization, startup development, technology industry


Vahagn Khachaturyan, the Minister of High-Tech Industry of the RA received the representatives of the delegation of the Agency for Investment and Foreign Trade of Portugal headed by the President of the Agency Luís Castro Henriques. The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia in the Portuguese Republic, Garen Nazarian, was also present at the meeting.

The Minister welcomed the guests and briefed them on the functions of the Ministry - emphasizing technological industry development, educational and innovative programmes, as well as a number of other programs implemented by the Ministry within the public-private partnership. Vahagn Khachaturyan also highlighted the processes implemented in the field of digitalization, presented the work done in the field of e-government and the important role and essential support of the European Union in them.

Luís Castro Enríquez thanked for the reception, congratulated the Minister on assuming new position, and presented the scope and directions of their activities, where the high-tech sector has a special role. He highlighted the successful activities of Google and Facebook in Portugal.  It was noted, that the Agency is a government-affiliated business organization, which aims to encourage the best competitive foreign companies to invest in Portugal and contribute to the success of Portuguese companies abroad.

During the meeting, a number of areas of cooperation were discussed, mainly in the sphere of digitization, development of startups and technological production. Vaagn Khachaturyan noted that he saw many opportunities for cooperation and that the Ministry was ready to intensify cooperation in all the condemned areas.

 At the end of the meeting, Minister Vahagn Khachaturyan also referred to the warm relations between the two peoples, especially emphasizing the role and significance of the famous Armenian philanthropist Galust Gyulbenkyan.
