Cooperation with the Netherlands in certain technological areas may be enhanced

On  September 7, Vaagn Khachaturyan, Minister of High-Tech Industry of the RA received Niko Shermers, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the Republic of Armenia.

The Minister welcomed the Ambassador, presented the main functions of the Ministry, and also highlighted Armenia’s technological achievements and the current challenges of the RA Government’s efforts to put the Armenian economy on a technological basis.

The Minister, based on the exemplary experience of the Netherlands in some areas of technology, emphasized mainly the deepening of cooperation in the areas of digitization, cybersecurity and e-government.

Vaagn Khachaturyan mentioned that the Ministry is now working on the direction of standards and methodology of digitization, which will be applicable throughout the republic in the future. Vaagn Khachaturyan spoke about the efforts aimed at creating competitive personnel and technological educational programs co-financed by the state of, as well as approaches directed to the stimulation of start-up activities. 

Nico Shermers thanked for the reception and congratulated the Minister on his new position and wished him good luck. The Ambassador emphasized the special relationship and approach of his country to Armenia and its willingness to deepen cooperation in the field of high technology. Niko Shermers noted that already some companies are interested in the IT sphere in Armenia and they are willing to work with Armenian companies. Ambassador stressed that there could be a good environment in Armenia for carrying out joint programmes and investments.

During the meeting, the broadening of perspectives for cooperation in the above-mentioned areas was discussed. The parties reaffirmed their willingness to develop cooperation.
