ARMENIAN MINISTER OF DEFENCE: ARMENIA PLANS A 200 MLN.DOLLAR ARMS PROCUREMENT DEAL WITH RUSSIA

The accords on the supply of weapons worth 200 mil., dollars are at the stage of being signed, -declared Seyran Ohanyan, the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Armenia. The agreements have been reached, at present the arrangements and work in respect of the official conclusion of accords are being in progress,-communicated Ohanyan to ‘Radio Liberty’ Station.

‘Preliminary agreements have been reached; but, taking into account the fact that the final decision has been taken quite recently, the details and aspects of the accords are now being agreed upon so that the progress of the official conclusion of the accords could be stepped up’.

According to Mr.Ohanyan,’ the agreements with our strategic security partner remains uneffected’.

On April 15,2016 the government of Armenia approved a draft resolution on the implementation of provisions of the agreement with the government of the Russian Federation on the extension of the 200 mil.dollar government export loan for the period of 10 years and the moratorium on the primary loan up to 2018. The supplement of the agreement stipulates the acquisition of  MLRS Smerch multiple rocket launchers and ammunition, Igla-S anti-aircraft systems, Avtobaza ground-based  ELINT systems, Solntsepyok TOS1A heavy flamethrower systems with transloaders, Tigr multy-purpose all-terrain infantry mobility vehicles, engineer and military communication equipment.

The extended export loan is used by the Armenian party for covering 90% of the cost of each Armenian-Russian arms deal with payments in the Russian roubles.Advance payments are 10% as large as the value and are made by the Armenian party in roubles in favour of respective organisations entitled by the Russian Federation.
