‘The stepping up of domestic production of arms and military equipment is quite achievable’- pointed out the member of the Board of the Council of American Scientists of Armenia (AESA), electrical engineer of the United States Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Mr. Richard Ohanyan in an interview to the’Aikakan Zhamanal’ (‘Armenian Time’) newspaper. Mr.Ohanyan added that Armenia is capable of establishing its own Space Technology Research Centre which could be of crucial importance for the country.

‘In my opinion, it is complicated but achievable. Besides, experts in the allied fields could promptly and effectively apply their research and development experience. Any electrical engineer dealing with design and manufacturing of iPads or mobile phones is also capable of taking up work in the radar manufacturing field,’-remarked Mr.Ohanyan.

He stressed that there is a fair number of scientists and engineers who could drawn to do scientific research and development in the field of space technologies. ‘There are already some developments and some progress has been made in this respect, but in order to achieve really meaningful results one will need to get access to substantial financial support and resources of the state’,- underscored the NASA engineer.

According to Mr.Ohanyan, Armenia is in need of making substantial progress in respect of arms and military equipment manufacturing. ‘It is vital for the Armenian State to draw up and start implementing respective programmes with the aim of improving quality of domestic arms production so that Armenia could become competitive in the field of arms manufacture on a global scale. Armenia has no alternative but to make substantial investments in the field of science and technology. It requires considerable financial resources, fundraising and budget.

One cannot implement programmes and projects with wonder promises’, stated Mr.Ohanyan.
